An ex-parte motion was granted on Friday by a Kano-based Federal High Court presided over by Justice S.A. Amobeda, preventing Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf from continuing to demolish buildings and other property in the State.

A resident of Kano, Saminu Muhammad, filed the ex-parte motion through a lawyer.
In response to the motion, the court ordered the Kano State government and its representatives to stop demolishing additional properties along BUK Road.
Justice Amobeda specifically ordered the Kano state government to halt plans for demolishing the applicant’s property, located on No. 41 and 43 Salanta, along BUK Road, Kano.
Respondents joined in the suit are the Attorney-General of Kano State, the Solicitor General of Kano State, the Governor of Kano State, the Kano State government, and the Kano State Bureau for Land Management.
Others include the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, Inspector-General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police, Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
After listening to the motion moved by the Applicant’s Counsel, Prof. Nasiru Aliyu, SAN, the court ordered an accelerated hearing of the case and adjourned the suit to July 10, 2023. Accelerated hearing was also ordered.
The matter was adjourned to July 10, 2023 for a hearing.
