The confirmation was announced during plenary yesterday, presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, after the House adopted the report of an ad hoc committee set up to assess the nominee.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, said Garo’s nomination became necessary following the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

Bello explained that the screening process was conducted in line with constitutional provisions, specifically Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee to fill a vacancy in the office of deputy governor. According to him, Garo underwent a thorough screening exercise, including a question-and-answer session covering his academic background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and vision for the state.

The committee also verified his credentials and found him qualified for the position, noting that he demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office and presented a workable plan to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Following the presentation, the House unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation through a voice vote, thereby confirming Garo as the new Deputy Governor.

Lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the executive arm to promote good governance, accountability, and sustainable development across the state.
