“Greedy Matawalles demand for 70% of Zamfara APC may destroy party” ? Ex-Gov. Yari warns

The immediate-past governor of Zamfara State, AbdulAzeez Yari, has revealed some cracks in the State’s chapter of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) since the entrance of the incumbent governor, Bello Matawalle.

According to Yari, the Party was at a crossroad over the sharing formula of the party structure, between Gov. Matawalle, a new entrant to the party, and the party members he had met.

He said the latest demand of 70% of the party structure by the governor was ‘greedy, unacceptable and poses a possible failure for the party in 2023.

He said Zamfara State had maintained its loyalty to the opposition, from the ruling party at the centre, coming from the All Peoples Party, (APP) to the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP), before the emergence of the ruling APC and therefore, such disposition of the party must be considered.

He noted that while the formula may have worked in States like Ebonyi and Cross River, the uniqueness of Zamfara, being in the opposition, was not all these years was one to be taken into consideration as the party decided on the structure.

On the composition of membership committee by the Matawalle camp, the ex-Governor said, “It would amount to contempt of court, or working against the party Constitution if the original party register at the ward level is tampered with”.

He said the structure of the party must be composed to retain its winning capacity as they will compromise the uniqueness of the Party.
