The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has filed a ?5 billion lawsuit against Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in an Oyo State High Court.
Adams claims Igboho illegally recorded and publicly released a private phone conversation between him and another individual, without his consent, which he says has damaged his reputation.
The self-styled Yoruba “nation activisy, in the suit, is seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights, citing Section 37 of Nigerias 1999 Constitution (as amended), which guarantees the right to privacy.
His statement emphasises that releasing private phone conversations without consent is unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional, calling Igbohos actions reckless and injurious to his position as the Aare Ona Kakanfo.
According to Adams, Igboho publicly shared the recorded conversation on social media in April 2024, creating serious embarrassment for him. Adams asserts that his private rights were violated, and he seeks exemplary damages to address the harm he believes was done.
