The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has alerted the nation that the continued cases of insecurity in the country may lead to food crisis across the land before the end of 2021.

Speaking during the flag-off and sale of fertiliser for the 2021 cropping season in Minna yesterday by the Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, the State chairman of AFAN, Shehu Galadima, said that there may be a food crisis in the country if the challenges of insecurity were not tackled by the government.
According to him, all 11 local government areas of the state have been badly affected by insecurity as the farmers can no longer go to their farmlands.

Galadims also said that many farmers last season could not harvest their crops as a result of bandits attacks, while those that succeeded to do so lost the harvests to bandits thereby making them to be in a position of serious financial crisis.
The destruction and losses recorded on farmlands, which began subtly with the farmer/herder crisis, have escalated with the increased cases of insecurity across the country.
The AFAN chairman said: If the issue of insecurity is not handled and put to an end now, there is going to be food crisis across the country as from later this year”.
It is good to give fertilizers to farmers but which farm will they go to when bandits have taken over 11 LGAs, he lamented.
Galadima, speaking further called on the government to review the withdrawal of incentives for farmers. He also said that AFAN has discovered moves by some unscrupulous elements to adulterate fertilizer and therefore urged the federal government to checkmate these people and their activities.
