FG levels treason allegation against Peter Obi over comment on Tinubu

…”It’s malicious” – Obi

The Federal Government has accused the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP), in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, of treason, saying he is inciting people to violence over the outcome of the presidential poll.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this in Washington DC, USA, during his official engagements with some international media organisations on the just-concluded 2023 polls.

Mohammed said Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, claimed that Nigeria’s democracy will come to an end if Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, is inaugurated on 29th May.

The minister also added that Obi is trying to incite an uprising in the country, adding that the Labour Party candidate is not the democrat that he claimed to be.

According to the minister, in challenging the election results, there was no pathway to victory for either Obi or Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, says attempt to rope him in on some phantom grave offense is ‘unfortunate and fictitious’.

In an issued statement yesterday by his media team, Obi said he never discussed or encouraged anyone to undermine the Nigerian State, adding that he is committed to due process and seeking redress in court.
