Buhari visits Maiduguri, says, “Im paying Nigerians back for their love for me”

…Directs security agencies to give no breathing space to terrorists

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said his commitment to serve Nigeria is a payback for the love Nigerians have shown him. 

The president made this statement at the palace of Shehu of Borno, while on visit to the State yesterday,  according to an issued statement by the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu.

My commitment to serve Nigerians is a payback for the love shown to me,  Buhari stated, adding that I started my political adventure in Maiduguri and I always look forward to coming here.

The President, during his visit, also visited  personnel of the Armed Forces and security agencies of Operation ‘Hadin Kai‘ at the Maimalari Cantonment. 

He commended the troops for defending the country against insurgents, adding that there is still much work to be done to restore peace to war ravaged North-East. 

The President charged the military and other security agencies not to give breathing space to terrorists and criminals operating in various parts of the country. He urged the military and security agencies to continue to make Nigeria proud.

In his remarks, the Commander of Theatre Operations ‘Hadin Kai‘, Maj-Gen. Felix Omoigui, assured troops of the Presidents confidence and commitment to their welfare, especially in bringing the war to a conclusive end.

President Buhari also interacted with some of the wounded soldiers assuring them that the government was fully committed to their recovery and welfare.

Present at the event were the Governors of Borno and Yobe States, Babagana Zulum and Mai Bunu, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Leo Irabor and Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. Farouk Yahaya.

Others were the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal Isiaka Amao and National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd).
