Bandits kill 4, abduct scores in Niger

Bandits have again attacked Pandogari, in Rafi local government area of Niger State, killing four people and abducting scores.

It was gathered that the bandits attacked the town shooting sporadically to inflict fear before abducting innocent people in the community.

According to one of the members of the community, Alfa Ibrahim, the bandits attacked the community through  Ma?era  road via the highway leading to Birnin-Gwari local government area of Kaduna State. He narrated that they came on nine motorcycles, carrying two or three people each as they shot at innocent people.

It was not clear if the security operatives stationed in the commercial sub-urban Pandogari were able to confront them. However, it was confirmed that vigilantes engaged and overpowered them with superior fire power. Consequently, the bandits gunned down three of the vigilante members and shot one other.

A villager who spoke to newsmen but preferred anonymity, said the bandits, riding on about nine motorcycles, each carrying two or three people wielding dangerous weapons, invaded the community shooting sporadically into the air.

The State’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Ahmed Suleiman Yumu, confirmed the incident, adding that contacts would be made to assess the humanitarian situation.
