Arewa Youths link Uzodimma to alleged plot to sack INEC Chairman, demands investigation

The Arewa Consultative Youths Movement, (ACYM) has linked Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma to an alleged plot to sack the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

To this end, the ACYM has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the governor over the alleged plot and also the plot to deactivate the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

Recall that the opposition political parties had last week raised concerns over fresh plots to truncate the 2023 general election, including stopping the use of BVAS and electronic transmission of results.

According to them, plans had been perfected by the perpetrators to create crisis of confidence based on trumped up charges that would lead to the removal of top officials of INEC, including its chairman and other National Commissioners, who are insisting on the use of the BVAS for the 2023 elections and the “irreversible” use of electronic transmission of the result.

The ACYM, in an issued statement by its President, Kabiru Yusuf, said it was therefore important for President Buhari, as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which Uzodinma belongs, to convince Nigerians that the plan is not that of his party by disowning the governor.

“We are therefore calling on the President to investigate the governor which belongs to his party. This is the only way President Buhari can prove to all lovers of democracy that his party is not behind this”, it stated.

The group further urged President Buhari to hurriedly look into this development and disown it.
