Abuja DisCo urges customers to disregard tariff increase

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has appealed to its customers to disregard the planned tariff increase as approval for such an increment had not been received.

AEDC management, which made the appeal in a statement yesterday in Abuja, said: “Please disregard the circulating communication, regarding review of electricity tariffs. “Be informed that no approval for such increments has been received. We regret any inconvenience”, it further stated.

However, AEDC had earlier, in an issued statement, said there would be an upward review of electricity tariff from July 1. According to the statement, the tariff increase is influenced by the fluctuating exchange rate.

AEDC encouraged its customers with pre-paid meters to consider purchasing bulk energy units before the end of June, stating that this would allow them to take advantage of the current rates and make savings before the new tariffs came into effect.

The DisCo said that for those on post-paid (estimated) billing, a significant increment is imminent in their monthly billing, starting from August.
