David Mark ADC alerts CJN

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, asking for a quick decision from the Supreme Court over the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.

The request was made in a letter dated yesterday by lawyers representing the faction linked to former Senate President David Mark. The legal team said the delay in delivering judgment could affect the party’s chances of taking part in the 2027 general elections.

Recall that the apex court had earlier heard the case on April 22, 2026, and reserved its judgment without giving a date. The matter is being handled by a 5-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba, following appeals challenging earlier rulings from lower courts on the party’s leadership crisis.

The party pleaded that it would have no role to play in the 2027 general elections unless the judgment is delivered within three days starting from today.

However, sensing dangers in any further delay in the judgment delivery, the party raised a deep concern that it would not be able to participate in the forthcoming general election, reiterating that without the delivery of the judgment within the next three days from the date of the letter, ADC stands the grave and irreversible risk of being excluded from participating in the 2027 General Elections.

It said this would disenfranchise millions of Nigerians who have subscribed to the ideals of the ADC of their constitutional right to freely associate and contest elections through a political party of their choice.

The party reminded the CJN that justice delayed, in this peculiar circumstance, would amount to justice denied. The entire political future of our client and the legitimate expectations of its members nationwide now hang in the balance.
