2023: ‘Osinbajo not desperate to contest presidency” – APC Group

Says his support base is increasing

As the race for the 2023 presidency gathers momentum, a group supporting the candidacy of Professor Yemi Osinbajo has denied that the Vice-President is no longer in the race.

The group, identified as the Progressive Consolidation Group, (PCG), which is a group in the All Progressives Congress (APC), said any narrative that Osinbajo has withdrawn from the 2023 race should be disregarded.

According to a statement issued by the group’s chairman, Aliyu Kurfi, while the Vice President has not officially declared his intention for the 2023 presidency, rumours that he has stepped down from the race in favour of another politician should be disregarded.

Kurfi, in his statement, submitted that while Osinbajo remains committed to the success of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, he can’t be intimidated by anybody to drop his ambition.

Kurfi, PCG’s chairman, said Osinbajo remains loyal to his boss, President Buhari and is focused on his job, adding that he has never been known for desperate politicking.

The PCG further stated that although Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo hasn’t declared interest in running for president, his support base is increasing.

“Specifically, it must be stated that an outrageous lie that the vice-president attended any meeting to renounce 2023 presidential ambition or bow to any politician for the same, remains an absolute falsehood. How can he renounce what he is even yet to accept or declare?

“The wishy-washy concocted reports about Prof. Osinbajo having any meeting with any individual or group about a purported withdrawal from the 2023 presidential race is about an illusory event that only happened in the fertile imagination of mischievous persons.

“Every well-informed Nigerian knows that PCG is the very first 2023 support group to be formally recognised by our progressive party, APC, and we have never sought to prevent or discourage others from following in our footsteps because Vice-President Osinbajo will not subscribe to dirty political games that some typically desperate politicians play.

“While Vice-President Osinbajo’s consistent loyalty to Mr. President, the APC and Nigeria continues to energise an increasing number of groups and individuals who genuinely believe in our party’s progressive cause, greedy and desperate political elements along with their manipulated perspectives must be kept at bay”, the PCG emphasised.
