…APC dismisses crisis claims
The Northern Elders Unity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has accused the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, of using government influence and resources to lure party members into joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara and Kaduna states.

The PDP elders claimed that over 24,000 of their members had recently defected to the APC, including former party executives and elders, in a deliberate plot to weaken the PDP’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the Zamfara State chapter of the APC has dismissed reports of internal crisis, accusing Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi and former senator Kabiru Marafa of seeking attention and attempting to cause division.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, described Shinkafi and Marafa as “disgruntled elements” trying to undermine the party for personal reasons.
The APC maintains that it remains united under the leadership of key figures such as Matawalle, Senator AbdulAziz Yari, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima, and former governor Mamuda Shinkafi. The party cited its recent victory in the Ƙauran-Namoda South State Assembly by-election as proof of its strength and unity.
As the political landscape in Zamfara continues to shift, the PDP elders have vowed to strengthen their party and resist all efforts to suppress opposition participation in the country’s political system ahead of the 2027 elections.
