In a post on his verified Facebook account on Thursday, Governor Sani described Makarfi’s tenure (1999–2007) as “a golden chapter in Kaduna’s history”, marked by peacebuilding, justice, and the protection of lives and livelihoods.

“Makarfi’s commitment to peace, equity, and development is a legacy that transcends politics. His wise counsel on critical issues continues to guide us”, the Governor said, expressing gratitude for the elder statesman’s steadfast dedication to the state.

Makarfi, a former two-term governor and ex-Senator, is widely remembered for fostering interfaith dialogue, reconciling divided communities, and expanding education and healthcare access across Kaduna’s diverse regions.

As the respected leader clocks 69, Governor Sani prayed for his continued health, strength, and divine protection, wishing him many more fruitful years in service to Kaduna, Nigeria, and humanity.

Political observers say the gesture reflects not only Makarfi’s towering stature but also a maturity in governance that prioritises unity over partisan divides – a rare and welcome development in Nigeria’s often polarised political climate.
