…As NGF donates ₦10m each
President Bola Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s Super Falcons with $100,000 (roughly ₦150 million) each, three-bedroom apartments, and national honours following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, (WAFCON), in Morocco.

The team, which staged a dramatic comeback to defeat host nation Morocco 3–2 in the final on Saturday and clinch a record-extending 10th title, was hosted at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.
Tinubu told the players and officials during the reception: “You have demonstrated an indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage. You have reminded us of the resilient spirit that defines Nigeria”.
Beyond the players, each member of the technical team is to receive $50,000 and a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate. In addition, President Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on every member of the squad and technical crew, describing them as “an inspiration to millions of Nigerians and Africans alike”.
The celebration also featured an announcement from Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who disclosed a ₦10 million donation to each player on behalf of the 36 state governors.
The players arrived at the Villa at 4:36 p.m. and were received by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, before proceeding to the Banquet Hall to meet with the President. Tinubu admitted the final match was “nerve-wracking,” adding: “I almost gave up, but you didn’t – and that is the Nigerian spirit”.
The latest triumph adds to Nigeria’s growing dominance in women’s football, with the Super Falcons having now won four of the last five WAFCON tournaments – in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2025.
