Speaking at the decoration ceremony held yesterday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the President urged the new military leaders to demonstrate patriotism, professionalism, and urgency in restoring peace nationwide.

“Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating, and of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South,” Tinubu said. “We must not allow these new threats to fester. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head. Nigerians expect results, not excuses. We are in a hurry to celebrate peace”.

The newly decorated officers include General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS); Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff (COAS); Air Marshal Kevin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff (CAS); Vice Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS); and Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).

Tinubu had last week approved sweeping changes in the hierarchy of the Armed Forces to, according to him, “further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.” He urged the Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.
