A Police officer, along with two suspected armed robbers, were reportedly killed as security operatives, comprising Police and the military, foiled a deadly bank robbery attack by gunnen inAbuja.

According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, who made this known in an issued statement to newsmen in Abuja yesterday. said the marauding gunmen had on Thursday evening attempted to rob a commercial bank, First Bank with explosive device in Abaji, a suburb within the FCT. However, shortly after, they were intercepted by gallant security operatives.
According to the statement, the combined operation, with troops of the Nigerian Army, was led by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igwe.
CP Benneth Igwe himself, with a combined operation with the military, mobilised to scene and repelled the attack, simultaneously carried out on both Abaji Divisional Police headquarters and First Bank Plc in Abaji by a group of fifteen armed men, who attacked with dynamites in attempt to rob the bank.
The statement further revealed three suspects, identified as; Usman (surname yet unknown), who was reported to be the gang leader; Nuhu Musa, 41 (m), of Kogi State; and Muhammed Aminu, 25 (m), of Abaji, were arrested as others escaped with grave degrees of bullet injuries, while a yet-to-be-identified suspect was set ablaze by an irate mob at the scene after being neutralised by the security forces.
One Police operative and the gang leader who was hit by bullet during the gun duel, were rushed to the hospital, and the doctor on duty confirmed them dead, while others are still receiving treatment, the statement noted.
