An explosion is reported to have taken place at the Zungeru Hydro Electric Dam, in Niger State. The explosion, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday, was said to have affected some of the installations in the dam. According to eyewitnesses, several workers were injured in the incident with one of the foreign engineers seriously injured and rushed to the Minna General Hospital. The engineer, believed to be a Chinese national, was admitted at the emergency ward of the hospital for treatment for burns in the head and hand.…

Zungeru hydro-power project to yield 2.64bn KW/h yearly Chinese consortium

The Chinese consortium, consisting of the China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) and Sinohydro, has announced that the Zungeru hydropower project will generate an annual electricity output of 2.64 billion kWh. $1.3 billion Zungeru Power project 97% complete, Minister declares

The Federal Government has declared the $1.3 billion Zungeru Power project 97 percent complete. What is not certain, however, is whether it will be commissioned by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The project is expected to provide 700 megawatts of electricity to the national grid while Kashimbila Hydro-electric Power project will provide 40 megawatts to the national grid. Zungeru hydro-power project to be commissioned in Q1 2023 – FG

The Federal Government says the $1.2 billion Zungeru hydro-power dam project, constructed in Niger State, will be ready for inauguration by the first quarter (Q1) of 2023. According to an issued statement on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Matane, the Minister of Power, Aliyu Abubakar, made this known when he visited the project site.
