Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that none of the 31 proposals for new states met the Constitutional requirements.  As a result, the submission deadline has been extended to March 5, 2025, for applicants to fulfill the necessary provisions. The 10th House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution announced that it has received 31 proposals for the creation of new states across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones. Clarifies its position Aminu Imam The upper chamber of the National Assembly has debunked reports that the lawmakers have proposed the creation of 20 more States, saying that the Senate was grossly misrepresented.
