Niger State government has directed all political appointees and public office holders intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions on or before March 23, 2026. The directive, issued by Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Abubakar Usman, follows the release of the revised 2027 electoral timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC). According to the timetable, presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027 while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.…

Gov. Matawalle of Zamfara appoints 250 additional political appointees
Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has appointed 250 additional political appointees to aid governance in the state. The Director-General on Political Affairs and Inter Party Relations, Alhaji Mikailu Aliyu, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Gusau, on Wednesday. Aliyu said the rationale behind the appointment was to ensure that good governance reached the grassroots and communities. He said that since the inception of the administration, the governor had appointed 25 commissioners, 55 Special Advisers, 72 Directors-General and 12 board members.
