Bayelsa: Diri declared winner of governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Douye Diri, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of Saturdays governorship election in Bayelsa State. INECs Returning Officer, Prof. Faruq Kuta, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, Niger State, said Diri, having polled the majority of votes and satisfied the requirement of the law, is now declared elected. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Duoye Diri as governor of Bayelsa State. A five-man panel of the appellate court in two unanimous judgments on Friday reversed the majority judgment of the Governorship Election Tribunal which sacked Diri.
