Sixteen Kano-bound travellers perish on Abuja-Kaduna highway

Ganduje laments loss

No fewer than sixteen travellers have reportedly perished on Wednesday along Abuja-Kaduna expressway on their way back to Kano from a business trip.

It was learnt that the sixteen hailed from Danbatta local government area of Kano State, were conveyed in a private vehicle and met their untimely death on the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

There were earlier reports that the victims were killed by bandits on the road after their car’s tyre was shot by the bandits. However, according to a press statement issued by the States Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the Kano indigenes perished in accident and were not killed by bandits.

The State government clarified that, The fact is, they perished at the Rigachikun axis of Kaduna-Zaria Road in a road accident following a burst tyre.

It expressed its deep condolences to their families and prayed that their souls rest in peace and also wished those who sustained injuries speedy recovery.

Similarly, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while reacting to the killing, expressed shock at the gruesome murder of the business tycoon.

In a condolence message signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar, Ganduje expressed devastation on the tragic development.

The governor also commiserated with the families of the deceased, the people of Dambatta local government area and Kano State in general.
