Armed men, suspected to be members oftheIndigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have reportedly attacked two Police stations, a checkpoint and killed seven Police officers in Rivers State.

This tragic incident was confirmed yesterday by the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni.
According to the PPRO, the attack occurred on Friday night at two police stations and a checkpoint, adding that vehicles belonging to the Rivers Command were also set ablaze.

It was gathered that the gunmen who came in two vans, first attacked the C-41 patrol team at Choba, where two policemen were killed, before heading to Rumuji and Elimgbu divisions, where five other operatives were shot dead.
However, two of the attackers were said to have been shot dead.
Recall that the Rivers State government placed a curfew in parts of the State following heightened attacks and killings of security operatives.
The Police spokesman added that the corpses of the deceased officers have been deposited in the mortuary, and that calm has returned to the area.
