Residents block Kaduna-Abuja highway in protest over kidnappings

Movement was halted on the ever-busy Kaduna-Abuja highway yesterday, as residents of Gonin-Gora suburb took to the street to protest rising cases of kidnapping in the area.

Gonin Gora is in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State. Recently, four people were reportedly abducted by bandits from their residences in Ungwan-Auta.

The protesters, mostly women and youths gathered at the main highway around 10 am demanding an end to the incessant kidnapping in the community. They vowed to remain on the road until they are addressed by the State Governor Nasir Ahmed el-Rufa’i.

A resident of Juji community, which is close to Gonin-Gora, told newsmen that the residents were worried about the rising cases of abduction in the community.

A senior Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials, who didn’t want to be named, confirmed the gridlocked caused by the protesters.

However, neither the State government nor the State Police Command have officially commented on the incident.
