Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) on night patrol along Kafi Abu-Rakwok Road in Gashish District in Barkin-Ladi LGA of Plateau State, on Sunday successfully conducted an intelligence-based operation.

leading to the arrest of a suspected notorious Berom native bandit and recovered a sophisticated weapon and ammunition in the process.
In a statement issued in Jos, the state capital, by its Media and Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, said the suspect was arrested while in ambush position with possible intent to attack unsuspecting commuters in the area.
According to the Major Zhakom, items recovered from the suspect include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition. He added that the suspect and weapon and ammunition recovered from him were being kept in the custody of troops for further action.
Meanwhile, he said efforts were ongoing to conduct follow-up operations to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
The Director stressed that OPSH was intensifying operations against the use of firearms by unauthorised individuals to disrupt the security of the Joint Operations Area. “We, therefore urge the public to continually furnish troops with actionable information to carry out the operations successfully, while also addressing the challenge of proliferation of arms”, Major Zhakom stated.
