Niger Coup: Dont take military action against junta, JNI warns ECOWAS

The Jamaatu Nasril Islam, (JNI), has warned Nigeria and the authorities of the Economic Community of West African States not to intervene militarily against the Niger Republics junta.

Secretary-General of the Joint National Intelligence Agency, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, issued the warning yesterday, in Kaduna.

Aliyu stated that the JNI, as the collective voice of the Muslim community, expressed deep concern about the democratically elected President of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum, being deposed in a coup.

The JNI commended the efforts undertaken by the Nigerian government, particularly initiating a dialogue process to resolve the crisis in Niger Republic. According to Aliyu, the intertwined landscape of Nigerias northern states and the Niger Republic necessitates more caution.

He explained that because several Nigerian states share borders with Niger Republic, military intervention could have unintended consequences for both nations peace and stability.

Aliyu urged all stakeholders to focus on resolving the Niger Republic crisis diplomatically and politically. He added that the international community, including ECOWAS, must continue to engage the junta in peaceful diplomatic discussions to resolve the issue.

He also urged Nigerians to pray to God seeking His merciful intervention, and guiding the countrys leaders towards wise decisions, as well as a peaceful resolution of the Niger Republic crisis.
