One person was shot dead yesterday in Lagos, as traders at Alaba Rago Market clashed with policemen from the Okokomaiko Division.

It was gathered that the Police had gone to effect the arrest of a suspect at the market, and came under massive attack from a large number of traders.
The Police were said to have shot one of the traders dead, in a tactical move to retreat from the mob of attackers.
The Lagos State Police Command Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the killing of one of the traders.

According to him, “Policemen of Okokomaiko Division today went into Alaba Rago Market to effect the arrest of a suspect but came under heavy attack from a large number of traders. In a bid to tactically retreat from the armed mob attack, one of the officers fired his weapon, resulting in a fatal injury to one of the attackers”.
“A detailed investigation has commenced into the immediate and remote causes of the incident”, he stated.
