Insecurity: Ohanaeze Ndigbo denounces secessionist agenda, says Igbos won’t support Nigeria’s breakup

…Calls for dialogue

The Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on the Federal Government to engage in dialogue in resolving insecurity challenges currently ravaging the country.

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador George Obiozor, while addressing a press conference in Enugu on Friday, cautioned President Buhari-led administration against the use of force, saying the use of force won’t resolve the nation’s crisis.

Obiozor, a former Ambassador to the United Nations, (UN), urged the government to investigate the destruction of lives in the South-East, saying, “We want to make it clear that Ndigbo will not support the break-up of Nigeria; but Ndigbo will not be victims of Nigerian unity. The use of military and violent means to solve a national problem will only lead to fractionalisation and anarchy”.

The Ambassador asked the Federal Government to probe the atrocities committed by trigger-happy security officials in the South-East in recent times.

He also enjoined the Federal Government to engage all Nigerian groups through their various leaders in an urgent dialogue in order to enjoy peace in the country.

He thereby advised Igbo youths against acts of violence and destruction of government institutions and facilities.

The Ohanaeze told the federal government to realise and be confident enough that no secessionist forces can defeat Nigeria, adding: “the present situation in the country will soon be history. This too shall pass”.
