The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, yesterday granted bail to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele after spending over one hundred and fifty days in detention by security operatives.

The former governor, who was transferred last week from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), was brought to the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and was seen surrounded by officials of the anti-graft agency.
The presiding judge, Olukayode Adeniyi, while delivering a ruling on his bail application, ordered the Federal Government to release Emefiele to his lawyers. Adeniyi also ordered the lawyers to ensure that Emefiele is produced for arraignment whenever he is needed, and that his international passport should be deposited before the court.
It was earlier gathered that the EFCC on Monday failed to bring the former Governor to court. The EFCC’s action was against Thursday’s order by the FCT High Court, ordering the Commission to either release him or produce him in court for the hearing of a motion on his bail.
However, at the court proceedings on Monday, the former CBN governor was absent.
