Borno: NAF neutralises terror leaders, fighters

As Boko Haram, ISWAP plan election attacks

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the elimination of more than 100 terrorists, including some of their leaders, in Borno.

Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, informed the public of recent airstrikes in an issued statement at the weekend.

The interdiction mission was conducted by the air component of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ at Mantari village, in the Gezuwa area of the Bama local government area. The spokesman disclosed that terrorist kingpins Khalid Tukur, Maimusari, and Bakura Jega were obliterated.

It was gathered that the raid followed intelligence on a Boko Haram commander, Ikirima, after he moved to Mantari village with his gun trucks.

Gabkwet said after the first wave of strikes, some surviving terrorists found their way back to the same location in order to evacuate the bodies. “This provided an opportunity for a follow-up strike, which has been confirmed very successful, as over 100 terrorists were neutralised, with dozens said to be in critical condition”.

Gabkwet disclosed that ISWAP and Boko Haram elements had perfected plans to resume active hostilities during the Yuletide and the 2023 elections.

The Director said the intelligence on the attempt to attack soft targets in Bama helped in the successful bombardment, “which has reduced their will to regroup and attack citizens”.
