2023: ‘Don’t expect too much from politicians’ – Kukah

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has told Nigerians not to expect too much from politicians in 2023.

Kukah, who expressed this while speaking about Nigeria’s forthcoming 2023 elections at the 14th edition of Fela Debates, which was held on Monday, in Ikeja, Lagos, said Nigerians should not expect too much from politicians as things did not usually turn out as expected.

Although Kukah was not present at the event, he spoke through Zoom. The Bishop said Nigerians would always be disappointed, but that no matter how things turned out, Nigeria would always survive.

Kukah began his speech on a note of humour, stating that his being at the event was an act of solidarity more than anything else. I dont know how Fela would have felt at the thought that the Bishop would be speaking at an event in his honour, he said, and the hall roared with laughter.

The Bishop urged INEC to keep political actors in check. I know that Fela was a great man and that is one of the reasons why I said I would do whatever I can to show my solidarity. I share his passion, his protests”, he maintained.

The theme of the interactive session was: ‘Election 2023: Action Time‘. The event was moderated by ace broadcaster, Edmund Obilo.
