“We have dislodged insurgents’ strongholds in N’East, N’West” – Army

…As DHQ tells terrorists, commanders: “You’re dead men walking”

The Nigerian Army says it has dislodged insurgents’ from their various strongholds in North-East, North-West regions of the country and a few areas in Niger State.

Commander, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC) in Niger State, Maj.-Gen. Kevin Aligbe, disclosed this during the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) in Minna, the State capital.

Aligbe said few insurgents raising their ugly heads in the State had been dislodged, adding that the war against insurgency had progressed steadily and effectively in the country.

“These achievements and successes have been widely recognised by the Federal Government and well-meaning Nigerians and even the international community”, he said.

He said TRADOC and 31 Brigade had continued to contribute troops to the ongoing Operation ‘Hadin Kai’ in the North-East and ‘Hadarin Daji’ in the North-West, adding that despite these achievements, there was still a security threat in the country, particularly in Niger, as terrorists had spread to some parts of the State carrying out dastardly acts.

He said troops of TRADOC, 31 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Air Force, Defence Headquarters Special Operations Force and 18 Brigade had been carrying out operations on ISIS within the state, with tremendous results.

Aligbe called on the military personnel and members of the public to be more security vigilant to nip in the bud any nefarious plan of the miscreants in the society.

He appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. -Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for unrelenting material and financial support to the cantonment that enabled it to accomplish its achievements.

In a related development, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday described terrorists and their leaders as “dead men walking”, saying “we will stop at nothing until they are dead or surrender”.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Edward Buba, made the declaration at the regular operational briefing on troops’ exploits across the six geo-political zones of the country.

While assuring of troops’ capacity to sustain “aggressive posturing” across the theatres of operation, the operations’ spokesperson appealed for continuous public support and cooperation, noting that the fight against insecurity had assumed a whole-of-society dimension.
