Scam: El-Rufai Allegedly Bribes Islamic Scholars Ahead of Elections

The governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai has allegedly bribed some Islamic Scholars to use their preaching this Friday to campaign in his favour as he seeks reelection.

This was disclosed through a leaked memo made available to a news medium, Arise News247, which shows the amount disbursed, the names of the recipients and the purpose of the funds.

According to the detail of the memo, the sum of seven million naira (N7 m) was disbursed to 8 Islamic Scholars and another twenty million (N20 m) was released to be shared for other Islamic preachers across the state, to mobilize them to preach towards the cause of El-Rufai “retaining the seat of power, in Kaduna State”.

The memo further details that sum released is only 50% of the agreed amount in their last meeting with the governor, while “the 2nd phase of the 50% balance is expected to be ready by (today), Thursday 7th March, 2019”.
