As the drama in the National Assembly over alleged budget padding unveils more facts, a northern group has cautioned the Senate President Godswill Akpabio over sentiments while faulting the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi and asked the Senate President to resign.
The group, Arewa Defence League made this known in Kaduna while addressing the media over the suspension of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, the President of the group, Murtala Abubakar said the antecedents of the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio leaves much to be desired as nationalist and should resigned if he cannot be a nationalist.
The statement captioned Budget padding and Ningi’s suspension; whose script is Akpabio acting as anti-North reads in part; Is Akpabio acting a script to the detriment of certain parts of Nigeria? If yes, whose script is he acting? Should we all fold our arms as Ningi is being used as guinea pig for certain plans against the majority of Nigerians?

Akpabio’ antecedents readily comes to mind here. As the Minister of Niger Delta Ministry, the forensic investigation carried out revealed so much rot under him. Recalled how the then Acting Managing Director of NDDC Mrs Joy Nunien exposed Akpabio’s hatred for the head of Legal unit; one Barrister Kaltungo simply because he is a northerner.
The group also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, like late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua and former President Muhammadu Buhari speak out and distance himself from the Senate insertions and budget padding. Continues silence would mean consent despite the attempted defence by Bayo Onanuga which held no water and blew into his face.
The Arewa Defence League also knocked the Senators from the North who abandoned Ningi when they should have used their greater number and influence more budgetary allocation to the region in the face of all the challenges of especially insecurity.
The Northern Senators to man-up by leaving upto the expectations of their constituents who are today IDPs in their own homes, daily facing more economic challenges and unprecedented insecurity that most can’t even venture to their farms and children afraid to go to school for the fear of kidnapping it said.
They called on patriotic Nigerians to be more vigilant and at alert for Akpabio and his principal officers not to turn the parliament, a very significant arm of Democratic government into charlatans, democratic despots for self-serving against the interest of majority of Nigerians.
If we fail to act and act fast, the suspension of Abdul Ahmed Ningi may be a kite flying act to test the ground for more grievous acts against the majority of Nigerians which may spell doom for Nigeria the statement concluded.
You will recall that Senator Ningi was suspended by the Senate over his allegation of over 3 trillion naira built into the 2024 budget without due process.
